Students will gain fundamental athletic skills while working as a team to learn games such as kickball, lacrosse, indoor and outdoor soccer and other group games. All activities will take place indoor’s in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and most of all fun.

The Show Must Go On with Stacy Vachon is an 11 week workshop where children K-5 will choose music and scenes from popular musicals, then rehearse and perform them in a show for their friends and families. The workshop will take place once per week at the Lowell School from the last week of March through May and there will be two sessions available to choose from. The first group will meet on Mondays from 2:35-4:00 while the second group will meet Tuesdays from 2:35-4:00. The cost for the program is $150 which includes the 11 sessions, dress rehearsal and all that is involved in putting on the show. Costume accessories will be discussed with and either created by the children on Mondays and Tuesdays during our workshops or could be simple items or accessories from home. During our sessions we will learn what it is like to be on stage in front of an audience and we will choose music from shows that the children think will be fun to perform. A fun and active program where students will take part in different sports such as whiffle ball, lacrosse, indoor or outdoor soccer and other group games. Two weeks will be dedicated to each of these sports where participants will be introduced to the basics of each game in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere.

The "Straighten Up America" program was initiated to educate the community on the importance of spinal health and equip folks with the tools they need to take care of their spines. Watertown chiropractor, Andrew Mekas D.C. will visit the Senior Center to explain the anatomy of the spine, how posture can affect our health, and demonstrate some exercises that can be done daily to promote a healthy spine.

Every year, the Mass Bar Association sponsors an Elder Law Education Program in cooperation with the Mass Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. This program brings elder law attorneys into the community to discuss legal issues of interest to seniors. Elder law is a focus on life-care planning to insure that the total health care and estate planning needs of an individual are addressed, from a multi-disciplinary perspective. This year elder law attorney, Dale Tamburro will visit the Senior Center to discuss these important issues and to answer your questions.

The Spring series of ten one-hour classes starts Friday March 15! Anyone, regardless of age or physical ability, can practice Tai Chi. Older adults find it especially appealing because the movements are low impact and put minimal stress on muscles and joints. The movements are easily modified to accommodate all levels of ability. Although Tai Chi’s best-documented health effect is its ability to improve balance, it can also reduce stress, increase flexibility, improve strength and increase energy. Tai Chi is taught by Senior Instructor, Marie Favorito, founder and Director of Boston Healing Tao. COST: $30. Payable to instructor at first class of the series. Just want to try it out? There’s a drop-in fee of $5.00 per class.
