On the Watertown Seal is a picture of an English Colonist and an Indian exchanging, as peace tokens,  bread for fish.  Captain Roger Clap landed at Nantasket Point in 1630 and rode up Charles River to Gerry's Landing with the first party of Watertown Colonists.

In addition to fire suppression duties and responses to other calls for emergency assistance, the Watertown Fire Department performs inspections and takes part in continuing training activities.

The Fire Department has mutual aid commitments to 33 other communities in Greater Boston, as well as throughout Massachusetts under the Statewide Fire Mobilization Plan.
