On the Watertown Seal is a picture of an English Colonist and an Indian exchanging, as peace tokens,  bread for fish.  Captain Roger Clap landed at Nantasket Point in 1630 and rode up Charles River to Gerry's Landing with the first party of Watertown Colonists.

Food Establishments
Types of Permits
The Health Department offers five types of permits:
  • Catered Events - Caterers from outside Watertown are required to register with the Health Department to describe how food will be safely transported and served. View the Catering Policy and Temporary Food Application.
  • Food Service - Each food establishment is inspected biannually or more for compliance with federal, state, and local food codes.
  • Mobile Foods - Mobile kitchens, snack and ice cream trucks are licensed for the calendar year and are inspected pre-operation and during operation for compliance with food regulations. To apply for a permit, please complete this   Mobile Food Application.
  • Retail Foods - Each retail food establishment is inspected annually for compliance with federal, state, and local food codes.
  • Temporary Food Permits - Individuals requesting to serve food temporarily are required to register with the Health Department to describe the food being served and how food will be safely transported and served. Get a Temporary Food Event Application.
