Zoning Relief Petitions
Description

When a property does not meet the requirements of the Watertown Zoning Ordinance (WZO), a petition is filed for relief in the form of a Special Permit, Special Permit Finding, Variance and/or Site Plan Review.  Approval is required from the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) or both.  

The Planning Board is the Special Permit Granting Authority (SPGA) for all Special Permits in the Pleasant Street Corridor District (PSCD) and for Site Plan Review (SR) approval.  
                   
The ZBA is the Special Permit Granting Authority for Special Permits outside of the PSCD Zoning District, Variances and Special Permit Findings.  Refer to Article V, Section 5 of the WZO.

Any questions regarding a particular project or the process can be directed to the Community Development and Planning Staff.
