Council on Aging/Senior Center
The Watertown Council on Aging/Senior Center provides a variety of social, health, educational, recreational, advocacy and support programs designed to help Watertown’s older adults age well in the community. The Senior Center is accessible for individuals with physical disabilities, and is equipped with WiFi.
Programs and Services for Seniors and their Families Include:
Information & Referral, Case Management, Emergency Assistance, Senior Shuttle Shopping Bus, Medical Transportation, Property Tax Work-Off Program, Income Tax Preparation, Medicare Health Insurance Counseling (SHINE), Legal Advice, Watertown Food Pantry, Senior Parking Permits, Blood Pressure Screenings, Podiatry Clinic.
Activities available at the Senior Center Include: Fitness Classes, Yoga, Chair Yoga, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Art Classes, Educational Lectures & Workshops, Mellowtones Co-Ed Singing Group, Book Club, Knitting Group, Afternoon Movies, Trips, Games Groups, Drop-In in our Lounge, Lunch and Learn Programs, Public Safety Mornings. The Directory of Senior Services (2004) contains listings of resources in the area. It is currently under revision, so please call the Senior Center for the most up to date information (617) 972-6490. Please note, SHINE appointments are Wednesdays by appointment, not Tuesdays. The new version of the guide will be published Fall 2018.
SNOW POLICY: If the Watertown Schools are Closed, all programs and Senior Shuttle Bus services are cancelled. If the Watertown Schools are Delayed, the Morning Shopping Run on the Senior Shuttle Bus is cancelled and Senior Center programs may be canceled at the Director and instructors discretion, so please call ahead. Safety is your first priority. Staff members are available 8:30 AM - 5 PM for questions. School cancellation information is broadcast on local cable, radio and television stations. Stay safe!
